I have not seen this, so I pass no judgment on whether it is any good or not. However, it looks like exactly the sort of ghost story I like. (I also recently saw an excellent 1983 adaption for a program called Shades of Darkness of Edith Wharton’s short ghost story “Afterward,” which I highly recommend.)

Houdini spent a lot of time trying to find a genuine psychic so he could talk to his mother. He kept hitting fraud, after fraud, after fraud. He was desperate to find a real medium. What drives a search like that fascinates me.
Also, the nineteenth century ended, culturally, in 1914 with the start of World War II. It took a while to figure out what the new century was supposed to be about. Periods right around such transitions are always of interest.
This film just might tick two of my favorite blocks.
